Carlby Church - St Stephen, Carlby
History Of The Carlby Church
Now part of Peterborough diocese and this benefice, St Stephen’s was previously in Lincoln Diocese. Carlby Church is one of only two churches in the diocese to be geographically outside the diocese but legally within it.
The Carlby Church dates from 1200, with additions over the following three centuries and substantial reordering in the C19th. It is noted for its magnificent clear windows, which allow light to flood in throughout the year
Above the chancel arch is a C15th doom painting depicting the dead rising from their graves, tended by angels and demons. A C13th piscina remains in the Chancel.
