St. John’s Restoration & Renewal Campaign Report – June 2022

Ground works in St. John’s Churchyard were completed in April to protect the building from water damage and are an essential part of preserving its integrity. We will be greatly relieved to see the main roof work get started in early June 2022 subject to the results of a bat survey in May. Unfortunately, with stiff increases in the price of materials and some additional unexpected costs, the funds raised for the estimated cost of the roof replacement has a shortfall of almost £10,000. If you feel you could donate to help fill this gap, it would be greatly appreciated. Contact Rev Jo at revjosaunders@live.co.uk or donate to the Churches GoFundMe page https://gofund.me/c2412dff which is also pinned to the top of the renamed ‘Ryhall, Es-sendine and Carlby Churches’ Facebook page.

Fundraising season has started! Simon Chapman will be helping to fill some of the shortfall in funds to replace the church roof with a sponsored cycle on 17th and 18th June. He hopes to cycle almost 200 miles in two days in the hills of Shropshire,

Lancashire and the Lake District. If you would like to sponsor him in this great effort, please donate via the GoFundMe page, details above.

St. John’s Church will be providing the refreshments to raise church funds at the

National Garden Schemes’ Open Days at Home Farm, Little Casterton Rd, PE9 4HA, on the edge of Ryhall. Come along and enjoy this colourful garden with beautiful herbaceous and shrub borders, stunning roses and honeysuckle, vegetable garden and orchard of old local varieties of top fruit. Open 1-5pm on Sat June 25th & 1-5pm on Sun June 26th, 2022. Details at https://findagarden.ngs.org.uk/garden/37673/home-farm We are delighted and very grateful to have been awarded a grant of £3,000 from the Jack Patson Charitable Trust, towards the cost of restoring St. John’s church tower clock which is over 250 years old. The clock undergoes annual maintenance, kindly paid for by Ryhall Parish Council, but is in need of more extensive restoration. The work will not start until after the roof replacement is completed.

The next volunteer workday to take care of the churchyard will be Saturday, June 11th, June 2022. If you’re interested in joining us, you don’t need to make any longer-term commitment. It’s very much a come as you’re able arrangement and new volunteers are always welcome to join our friendly group. Contact Sandra at thesandra-chapman@gmail.com for more details.
