Mrs Joan Caplan, late of ‘Poppin’ New Road Ryhall died on August 13th in Kings Lynn hospital, one week before her 94th birthday. Joan had a bad fall in March and after a stay in P.C.H moved to Van Geest in Stamford. She then moved to Lincoln Hospital and Lincoln care home before a move to a rest home in Hunstanton to be near her son. Just starting to settle there, she had a major stroke from which she did not recover and died peacefully. The funeral took place on August 26th at Mintlyn Crematorium in Kings Lynn. Joan’s ashes will join her husband’s to lie in Roundhay Park Yorkshire, a favourite spot where they used to sit. Joan may be remembered from 4 years ago, when in her 90th year she joined the Queen in her 90th year. The Gala committee invited Joan to cut the birthday cake at a special event held on Ryhall playing field to celebrate her majesty’s 90th birthday, which Joan was very proud to do. Joan loved the village and people of Ryhall. She often said she could not be in a better place after the death of her beloved husband who, sadly, never got to live here. Joan settled well here and joined in everything until the last two years when, to her annoyance, her age got the better of her.A lovely, friendly lady who would talk to anyone, given the chance, about her beloved Yorkshire, she will be missed by many. Rest in peace, Joan – you deserve it. Betty Edwards. |
