Dorothy Dolby has left the village of Belmesthorpe to live with her daughter, Tina. Dorothy was the founder who started this Village News years ago. In her time she has worked hard for the villages in many ways. We wish her peace and happiness in her new life – a very clever lady. ‘Wow’ what a celebration, the colour in church was wonderful and the 8 extra pots of flowers a delight – so thank you to everyone who placed flowers and flags too. It was a pity nature raised her ugly head and gave us rain on Sunday which caused so much to be cancelled but we had a lovely service in church to celebrate Pentecost and again in chapel in the afternoon. Due to the rain we missed being in the lovely garden of Mr & Mrs Hindmarch. Nevertheless after the celebration of what I still think of as Whitsun (remember the new white ankle socks and pretty bonnets we always had, gosh I’m going back a bit now!), the chapel people, as only they can, prepared a delicious tea party so thanks to them for that.

Thanks also to all who served lovely refreshments at church in the morning.

The television coverage was spectacular and London was blessed with fine weather. It was wonderful to see our queen as we did. Let’s hope we have given the children some happy memories to cherish for many years but it all comes down to those who plan and organise in whatever form – so thank you all.

One more hooray – the men are working on the church roof at last! Betty Edwards My new ‘phone number:- +447368678669
