St John’s is holding a biodiversity survey in our churchyard to help care for this special green space and support local wildlife. It ties in with Churches Count on Nature, but we’ve planned it for the school summer holidays so more people can join in.
You may already have heard of the Churchyard Champions volunteer team, who do so much to look after the churchyard. We’ve planned the survey for a time when some of the team will be there too. Come along and help us spot the plants and animals living in this historic green space. You’ll be able to record what you find and add it to a public database. These records help show which species are doing well, which may need more support, and they also help the Churchyard Champions and PCC members make good decisions about caring for the churchyard.
The event will run from 10am to 12 noon on Saturday 1st August. We’ll use the iNaturalist app to help identify the species we find, so if you have a smartphone, you may like to download it beforehand. Refreshments will be provided, and let’s hope for a dry day. Children under 12 will need to be accompanied by an adult. For more information, please visit the website below https://arocha.org.uk/event/churches-count-on-nature-2026/
