News from the Village of Essendine – May 2021

Let’s brighten up Essendine for the summer and bring colour and enjoyment to us all as we ease out of lockdown.

We are running a competition for all residents to grow Sunflowers in their gardens for all to admire. There will be a prize for the tallest, which will be judged at the end of August and also a prize for the biggest and best display. A separate prize for the under 11s to show their green fingers too! Seeds are readily available in packets at Lidl, Sainsburys, Morrison’s and Wilkos. If you have any difficulty obtaining seeds please let us know and we’ll endeavour to help.

So what are you waiting for? Get sowing and get involved in a bit of fun. Further details phone or text Katherine Ayton, 07951 591557 or Adele Stainsby 07939 132093.

VILLAGE HALL REOPENING: In line with government guidance, we plan to reopen the hall from Monday 17th May. We are now accepting bookings for groups and private parties. Please get in contact either via the website or by phoning Adele Stainsby on 01780 751711 or 07939 132093.

FLAG FLYING: The flag thanking the NHS staff for all their efforts has been flying for many weeks now. On April 10th it was flown at half mast, to pay our respects to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. If you have a special occasion to celebrate and would like a flag flown, we would be happy to oblige. Please contact Adele Stainsby for further details.

DOG FOULING: Polite request to the minority. This is still a problem on the footpaths and verges. Please be responsible and pick your dog’s mess up. If you do bag it, (which you should), then remember to pick it up and take it home please; many bags are being left behind for others to clear up after you. Remember we are all entitled to walk the local paths without fear of where we are treading!
