News from the Village of Essendine – Dec 2021

DO YOU LIVE IN GLEN CRESCENT OR STATION ROAD?

We have had no offers to deliver the newsletter to these roads, so sadly they will not receive copies after this issue unless volunteers come forward. Neither road is large—could you spare 10 minutes once a month to deliver to one of these roads? Please contact Jenny bajmspicer@aol.com or Rev Jo 07946237223 if so.

PCSO 6516 DI FREEMAN IS HOLDING A BEAT SURGERY on Thursday 23rd December 2021 at Essendine Village Hall between 10.00 -11.00 and if you would like to talk to Di about any concerns or issues please come down and join her.

HIGH SHERIFF’S VISIT TO ESSENDINE : On November 10th, we welcomed the High Sheriff of Rutland and his wife to the village. They were given a guided tour of the church, the vineyard and distillery at Church Farm and then joined our diners for the Luncheon Club monthly meal in the Village Hall. The High Sheriff wanted to visit all the villages in Rutland and find out more about them. He was very impressed with what he saw and with the community spirit that has evolved with the luncheon club. ESSENDINE VILLAGE HALL is now fully reopened and we are working within the recommended guidelines to ensure that everyone is kept safe when using it. Our yoga groups have resumed, the smart fit group on a Tuesday afternoon is also back in action and the Brownies, Guides and Rainbows are also meeting again. Sadly our Scout group has been disbanded, due to a lack of leaders. Some of the young people have moved to other groups in the area. We are very sad that they have disbanded, as they have been with us a good number of years and provided activities for many of our local youngsters. If you have any ideas for new activities that could be held in the hall for villagers, please do let us know. We always welcome new people to the village to join us at the Village Hall and be part of our committee which is very welcoming and doesn’t require very much commitment on a monthly basis. If you feel you could get involved with helping to run our Village Hall in some way, we would be delighted to hear from you. We are very lucky with the facility that we have, the lovely grounds and playpark adjacent to the hall and so we are a very popular venue, particularly for children’s parties.

Currently we do a party rate of £35 for a four hour slot for children’s parties, which is one of the best value hirings is in the area. Please do get in touch with Adelestainsby@yahoo.co.uk or phone 07939132093 if you’d like to book the hall. You can also look at our website where more information and pictures are available and there is an email address via that website too. We now have a Tuesday evening slot available for a village activity, if anyone is interested in starting something up. 2 Thursday evenings a month are available too. Contact details as above. The village hall will be closed for the Christmas period, starting on the 23rd December and will reopen on Tuesday 4th January.

BROWNIES AND GUIDES IN ESSENDINE: We have a very active unit in the hall on a Monday evening, with Rainbows, Brownies and Guides. There are vacancies for girls to join, especially with the Guide Unit. If you have a daughter who is interested, please contact Kath Kilby the leader by email kmkilby@btinternet.com
