CARLBY BOWLS CLUB: Season in full swing with league matches Mondays and Fridays. The Corgis team is now in the top league and finding it tough with Carlby playing against County players. The Bees team in the lower division is finding it easier and winning matches. Friendly matches on Wednesday afternoons very enjoyable with tea and raffle at the end of the game. Numbers difficult Friday evenings for matches and so a few new Members needed (especially any from the village) with three long term stalwarts, John Ardin, Iris Clarke and Gordon Templeman no longer playing. Contact Roger Shead 01778 392 838 for details.
THE VILLAGE HALL is now available for hirings, subject to government Covid restrictions. If you would like to book the village hall please email Carlby villagehall@hotmail.co.uk with your name, address (special rates for Carlby villagers) and details of when you would like the hall.
CARLBY AND DISTRICT WI’s next meeting is Tues,14th Sept. at 7.30 p.m. when Veronica Hewins will give an Indian Cookery Demonstration and show us how to make two curries as well as talking about her life growing up in India. CARLBY PLAYING FIELD
Climbing Frame & Slide Project
GREAT NEWS – thanks to all your support and donations, we have been awarded £5,000 from Calor Gas for the climbing frame and slide project. This is a fantastic re-sult for us and thank you again to everyone who took part in the crowdfunding.
MORE GREAT NEWS – we have also been successful in obtaining £1,000 grant from Persimmon Homes to put towards the equipment. Thanks to our neighbour, who works at Persimmon, for championing our cause.
EVEN MORE GREAT NEWS – our application for a £5,000 grant from South Keste-ven Community Fund was also successful. Fantastic that the local council are also supporting us in developing the kids play equipment.
All of the awards and grants above, plus the £4,000 raised from crowdfunding dona-tions mean we have a total of £15,000 to purchase a climbing frame and slide unit for the playing field, without using any of our existing funds. We are obtaining quotes for bigger equipment than we originally planned and the Playing Field Committee will be looking to place an order in early September.
We will let you know next month what equipment has been ordered and the timescale for installation.
Kids’ Bike Track
Thank you to everyone who voted in July on the proposal for creating a kids bike track at the top of the playing field. The results were independently collated and published on the Parish Council website by our Parish Clerk at the beginning of August.
We received 91 votes by the deadline with 72 votes in favour of the bike track and 19 votes against the proposal. The results also indicated the track would be used by 35 people from the village.
Based on the majority of votes in favour of the project, the plan is to start creating the tracks in the next few weeks….lots of digging, so it is likely to take a few months to complete. We do have a number of people who have volunteered to help with the
digging already, but if anyone else would like to join us, please send us a message via Facebook messenger.
CARLBY VILLAGE HALL PUB NIGHT

Hurrah, our monthly pub nights are back! To mark this special occasion we’re going back to the Roaring Twenties. Think the Great Gatsby, the Charleston and all that jazz – let’s party like it’s 1921!
You’ll be pleased to know there will be our themed quiz, free nibbles and a special raffle as well as a fully licensed bar – with real ale.
Doors open at 8.00 p.m – 11.00 p.m
A lot has happened since our last pub night way back in February 2020. We look for-ward to welcoming back a few old faces and hopefully some new ones!
