CARLBY PLAYING FIELDS:
Playing Field Committee Annual Meeting: The annual meeting was rescheduled to 20th January 2022 and we will update you with highlights from the meeting in March’s newsletter. We hope we will have a few more members and volunteers to help us with events and plans for this year.
Climbing Frame & Slide Project: The latest update from the supplier is that the combined climbing frame and slide plus a climbing net unit should be installed in March / April. They are experiencing delays in manufacturing due to the supply of raw materials and labour, but we will get the new equipment as soon as possible. Photos of the new equipment have now been added to our Facebook page. The equipment is good quality and should provide lots of fun for kids over many years, so worth the wait.
Kids’ Bike Track: We made great progress building the bike track in September and as many of you know it has been well used by many kids from the village and a few adventurous parents too. We would like to thank all those of you who gave up you time and helped us build, provided free soil and haulage. At the moment the soil is wet and heavy so building work has paused but will resume when we get back into dryer, warmer weather. Although the overall size of the area will be unchanged we’ll continue to tweak the features and possibly layout from time to time to make the ex-perience of riding it as good as possible. The sides of the features have been sown with a wildflower and grass mixture which should germinate soon as we come into spring. Please wear a helmet at all times when riding on the track.
Playing Field Planting: A Yew hedge has been planted at the entrance to the bowls club car park to replace the boulders which were falling apart. Many thanks to Hugh Nunn for advising and sourcing the hedging plants and to Dan Pope for helping to dig the holes! We have planted a few more native trees around the playing field to
encourage in wildlife and to provide some dappled shade for children using the play equipment.
