Carlby and District WI Meeting
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 10th August 2021 at 7.30 pm.
The speaker is Keith Appleyard who will be giving us a talk on ‘Bletchley Park and cracking the Enigma code’.
We are hoping to return to the Village Hall for this meeting but if not it will be via Zoom.If you would like to join the meeting as a guest, please email Sue Blessett at mervynandsue@gmail.com and she will give you details.
CARLBY BOWLS CLUB: The Season in full swing with league matches on Mondays and Fridays. The Corgis team is now in the top league and finding it tough playing against County players. The Bees team in the lower division is finding it easier and winning matches. Friendly matches on Wednesday afternoons are very enjoyable with tea and raffle at the end of the game. Numbers are difficult on Friday evenings for matches and so a few new Members are needed (especially any from the village) with three long term stalwarts, John Ardin, Iris Clarke and Gordon Templeman no longer playing. Contact Roger Shead 01778 392 838 for details.
CARLBY PLAYING FIELD: THANK YOU to everyone who donated money towards adding a climbing frame & slide to the Playing Field via our Crowdfunding page. We ended up getting £4,000 from the fundraising with over 100 people making donations. This is a fantastic result for a small village and means we have approx. £8,000 so far for the climbing frame & slide.
We are hoping to get some additional money from Calor but will have to wait until August to find out.
In the meantime, we are actively applying for additional funding via grants and also getting quotes from a number of playground equipment suppliers. We are passionate about completing this project this year.
All households in Carlby should have received details of the proposal for a kids’ bike track, along with voting slips. We are working with the Parish Clerk to ensure every-one in the village can let us know if this is something they would or wouldn’t like. The voting will close on 31st July and the results of the vote will be published by our Parish Clerk in August. We will go with the majority.
As always anyone who would like to join the committee and help manage the Play-ing Field is very welcome.
We look forward to updating you on these projects next month
